6 Questions That Will Help You Navigate Change

questions-for-this-season

We often use the term ‘season’ to speak about times of life in certain places or doing certain things. In the same way the natural seasons change, so do the seasons of our life; we switch locations or our circumstances change – sometimes voluntarily – sometimes not so much.

During these times of change, anxiety and worry can creep in and cloud our perception. Asking ourselves these six questions can bring clarity and direction when we feel lost in transition.

God loves to ask questions, and He asks some very insightful ones to people in the Bible that remain powerful and useful for us today:

1. To Adam… where are you?

Where are you right now? What is your current season? What is your current location? What is your current place of work, or education? Take stock of where you are, and then being to ponder why you are there. Is there a larger plan to be aware of?

2. To Eve… what have you done?

What have you done? What is your personal history? What experience, testimonies, roles, or  jobs have you done up to this point? What have you learnt in your past that could guide you in your future steps?

3. To Cain… where is your brother?

Where is your brother? What people around you can help or support you? Who are the key people in your life that influence or shape you? Friends, family, significant others, bosses, leaders… who is around to teach, train or mentor you in things you need? What connections or networks do you have access to?

4. To Hagar… where are you going?

Where are you going? What is your vision for your life? What prophecies or dreams do you have? What are your ambitions and goals? What do you need to do to see them fulfilled? How can you step closer to seeing them become reality?

5. To Moses… what is in your hand?

What is in your hand? What resources do you have available to you, whether finances, talents, knowledge or skills? What do you know? What can you do?

6. To Elijah… what are you doing here?

What are you doing here? What brought you to where you are in the first place? What was the purpose? Have you learned what you needed to? Have you achieved what what required of you? Is it time to move on? What is the next lesson to learn? Is there anything you need to re-learn?

Reflecting on these questions can shed light on the mystery of the unknown, and lead to confident decision-making that is proactive rather than reactive.

How about you? When do you know that your season is changing? What keys have you found to help make the transition?
